ANTIQUE STAINED GLASS: STAINED GLASS WINDOW, RECTANGULAR PANEL, ETHERLANDISH STAINED GLASS PANEL, FLEMISH GOTHIC ROUNDEL
A STAINED GLASS PANEL painted with the figure of a
classical warrior, in purple glass surround, 9′/2in. high
(24cm.) Dutch, 18th Century.
A STAINED GLASS ROUNDEL of Tobias and the Angel, Tobias gutting the fish as Raphael instructs him, 93Ain. diameter (25cm.) large section lacking.
A STAINED GLASS WINDOW, the central panel
bearing the inscription Toost ten Velde, 1624 within
mannerist framework with putti and grotesques, each
corner panel with people in contemporary dress, 321/2in.
high (83cm.) Dutch, first quarter 17th Century, some
panels damaged.
AN IRISH STAINED GLASS RECTANGULAR PANEL with the Temptation of St. Anthony, signed and dated /. Pearson, 1802, 103Ain. by ll3Ain. (27cm. by 29.5cm.) early 19th Century,
cracked, one corner restored.
V James Pearson, born Dublin, circa 1750-1805, worked in Bristol and later in London. He exhibited at the Society of Artists and is represented in Brasenose College, Oxford, and
Salisbury Cathedral.
AN ENGLISH GOTHIC STAINED GLASS PANEL of St. Peter, the full length figure of the Saint facing left and wearing a blue and ochre coat over a red tunic, in his right hand a
closed book and in his left a key, standing against a background of a formalised leaf pattern in silver and ochre with a foliate band at the bottom, bordered by two silver
shafts supporting a crocketed double canopy with leafy terminal finials, the canopy standing against a background of scrollwork in light and dark blue, 49′Ain. by 17lMn. (125cm.
by 44.5cm.) 14th Century, part of the borders and upper background later replacements, several panes mainly at the bottom broken.
A NETHERLANDISH STAINED GLASS PANEL painted in sepia with the story of St. Theodore, the saint sup-porting the Cross on his Shoulders, on his left a hermit in a cave and to the
right the Temple of St. George the Martyr with the inscription Sacra puellus adhuc Theodorus templa Georgi Martyris et paullo grandior antra petit Ferrea cui vestis, manicae,
pedicaeque, domusque Longaque crux, Christi nomine dulcis erat, lO’/zin. high (26.7cm.) 17th Century, in lead frame.
A Swiss STAINED GLASS ROUNDEL depicting a surgeon engaged in a trepanning operation with the help of an assistant, at the side a coat of arms composed of a lily, a razor below,
two bleeding knives above, in the background a view of a river bank with two duellers, at the bottom a panegyric of the medical profession: in the upper border the surgeon’s
name: Gregorius Scherer, Schnit und Wundartzt of S. Johann in Thurgan, signed by the artist S.A., 6in. diameter (15.3cm.), 17th Century.
A GERMAN STAINED GLASS PANEL, in late Gothic
style, depicting a seated young woman supporting the
coat of arms of Erlach by a ribbon, inscribed ano domini
1495 below, 13′hin. by 9′hin. (34.3cm. by 24cm.) 19th
Century, in wooden frame.
A FLEMISH STAINED GLASS ROUNDEL, painted with
the Crucifixion, an armoriai in the foreground, lO’Mn.
diameter (27cm) 16th Century, a large fragment replaced
with contemporary glass, plated.
A LOZENGE-SHAPED STAINED GLASS PANEL, in the
style of the 15th Century Cologne School, depicting a
bishop surrounded by a scroll, the figure mainly in
grisaille, with panes in yellow, red and blue, 15′hin. by
Hin. (39.4cm. by28cm.)
A FLEMISH STAINED GLASS ROUNDEL painted with
Christ summoning Matthew the tax collector, finely
drawn landscape background, 10′Ain. diameter (26cm.)
16th Century, cracked and plated.
A STAINED GLASS ROUNDEL, the central panel painted in grisaille with the Five Wounds of Christ, the central one a heart, the spandrels painted with vine foliage in yellow
against a blue ground, the outer border with cloud pattern, 9in. square (23cm.) early 16th Century, English, cracked and imperfect.
A GROUP OF STAINED GLASS FRAGMENTS, releaded,
193Ain. diameter (49cm.) English, 14th/15th Century, set
into later glass surround.
V Reputedly collected from around Canterbury Cathedral when the building suffered bomb damage during the war.
